Summer Volunteer Opportunity: Kachra Kamgar Union

Living on the margins of the society and the city, waste pickers perform a task essential for a city to survive; collect, sort and recycle waste. Kachra Kamgar Union (KKU), a registered trade union, works with 3000 waste pickers families in Delhi. One of their core activities is facilitating access to entitlements such as food security, health insurance and social security pensions. To do this they are also part of wider platforms; Pension Parishad and the Right to Food campaign.
To operationalise the provisions of the National Food Security Act 2013, a series of ration card and voter ID enrollment camps are being jointly organised by the KKU, Pension Parishad and Right to Food campaign. As a result of their efforts of advocacy with the Delhi Government, officials from the concerned department have agreed to join these camps, verify the applications and give dated receipts.
Any time that you can spare to volunteer at the camps will be greatly appreciated.

Completing documentation for the waste pickers. You only need a working knowledge of spoken and written Hindi and a positive attitude. Commitment for any number of days is acceptable, i.e. you can volunteer for one or all days, but on that day, please stay for the entire duration.
