Satya Devi, who lives with her son and daughter in law, was widowed ten years ago. She is entitled to a pension of Rs. 200 but she has not been receiving it for the past five months. She says she has given an additional Rs.200 to get the pension but to no avail. Her son and his wife do agricultural work off and on and earn about Rs 200 a day. When there is no work they have to sit at home and remain hungry.
The family lives in a shed because they don’t have land for building a house. The money they got under the Indira Awaaz Yojna scheme was spent on the treatment of her husband.
Satya Devi says she wants a maximum pension of Rs. 2000 in order to run her household. She is participating in the Pension Parishad rally, with the hope of getting a more secure pension for her and her family.
